In November 29 and 30, France & St. Louis (MO) is celebrating Josephine Baker's induction into the Pantheon on November 30 in Paris and paying tribute to her life and legacy. As part of the celebration in her birthplace in partnership with Villa Albertine Chicago, the Alliance Française de St. Louis, the Washington University in St. Louis and the Consulate General of France in Chicago, French street artist Christian Guémy, known as C215, has created different portraits of Josephine Baker that allow to represent her at different ages and from different angles, from the artist to the resistance fighter. The portraits are painted on the walls of the Alliance Française de St-Louis, the Griot Museum of Black History, the Kranzberg Arts Foundation and on various streets such as Boulevard Josephine Baker. With this project in St. Louis, Christian Guémy continues his series of portraits of great figures honored at the Pantheon in Paris with the "Illustrious! C215 autour du Panthéon" which pays tribute to 28 personalities. He started spray painting in 2005 and is now one of the best and most productive French stencil artists on the art scene.
