Sunday Evening Walk Along North Bridge Road – A Journey Through Culture and History On a calm Sunday evening, I started my walk from the Stamford Raffles statue, standing proudly by the Singapore River. This iconic figure marks the beginning of a journey through one of Singapore’s most culturally rich and diverse areas—North Bridge Road. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden hue over the water. From here, I had a spectacular view of Singapore’s Central Business District. Skyscrapers gleamed in the twilight, standing as symbols of modern Singapore’s success and progress. As I lingered for a while, a tourist boat slowly cruised by along the river, filled with people admiring the sights and sounds of the city. It reminded me how Singapore blends history and modernity so seamlessly. I continued my walk towards Elgin Bridge, crossing over the historic Singapore River. The bridge itself holds stories from colonial times, connecting the city’s north and south banks. From there, I began my journey down the length of North Bridge Road. Soon, I passed the Parliament House—an elegant structure that reflects the country’s political backbone. As I moved forward, the street began to change. Just past the stately buildings, I came across Peninsula Plaza. Here, the atmosphere was completely different. Groups of Myanmar workers gathered in the open areas, laughing, chatting, and enjoying their Sunday break. This place is often referred to as “Little Myanmar,” a hub for the Burmese community in Singapore. The vibrant atmosphere, ethnic food, and language spoken around this area added a unique cultural flavor to my walk. Further down, I passed by Raffles City, a bustling mall and business hub. The towering complex stood in contrast to the nearby CHIJMES, a beautifully restored former convent that now houses chic restaurants and bars. Walking through the serene courtyards of CHIJMES, I was reminded of Singapore’s ability to preserve heritage while embracing the future. My journey continued through Odeon Towers, Bras Basah Complex—known for its bookstores and art supplies—and the impressive National Library building, a modern architectural gem. Bugis Junction was next, buzzing with life as always, filled with shoppers, tourists, and street performers. Just as I was approaching the Golden Mile Landmark, the rain began to fall—gentle at first, then heavier. I quickly made my way to Zam Zam, a famous eatery known for its rich and flavorful chicken nasi briyani. The comforting smell of spices and freshly cooked rice was just what I needed. After dinner, I took a short walk on the opposite side of the street. This area is lined with massage centres and spas, quietly lit and inviting. It's a lesser-known part of North Bridge Road, offering wellness services that cater to both locals and tourists alike. This evening walk down North Bridge Road was more than just a stroll—it was a journey through the different faces of Singapore: history, culture, community, commerce, and cuisine, all along one iconic street. #travel #food #singapore If you like my channel please like , subscribe and share.
