Please subscribe!    / nickperich   To round an integer to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, or ten thousand, follow these steps: Identify the Place Value to Round To If rounding to the nearest ten, locate the digit in the tens place. If rounding to the nearest hundred, locate the digit in the hundreds place. If rounding to the nearest thousand, locate the digit in the thousands place. If rounding to the nearest ten thousand, locate the digit in the ten-thousands place. Look at the Next Digit to the Right If the next digit is five or greater, increase the digit in the rounding place by one. If the next digit is four or less, keep the digit in the rounding place the same. Replace All Digits to the Right with Zeros After rounding, all digits to the right of the rounding place should become zeros. Examples Rounding 478 to the nearest ten The tens place is seven, and the next digit (ones place) is eight. Since eight is five or greater, increase the seven to eight. Replace the ones digit with zero, giving 480. Rounding 2,341 to the nearest hundred The hundreds place is three, and the next digit (tens place) is four. Since four is less than five, the three stays the same. Replace the tens and ones digits with zeros, giving 2,300. Rounding 56,829 to the nearest thousand The thousands place is six, and the next digit (hundreds place) is eight. Since eight is five or greater, increase the six to seven. Replace the hundreds, tens, and ones digits with zeros, giving 57,000. Rounding 143,276 to the nearest ten thousand The ten-thousands place is four, and the next digit (thousands place) is three. Since three is less than five, the four stays the same. Replace the thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones digits with zeros, giving 140,000. By following this process, you can round any integer to the desired place value accurately.
