Microvascular decompression

Sharing a case of trigeminal neuralgia. Microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery performed in this 60 years old lady for trigeminal neuralgia. The patient presented with intractable facial pain not responding to medications (the pain can be so severe that it drives the patient to commit suicide). Specific sequence on MRI points to neurovascular conflict as cause of trigeminal neuralgia. The neurovascular conflict i.e arterial loop over the trigeminal nerve is separated using microsurgical techniques as seen in the video and Teflon patch is placed to keep it separated. The end result is immediate pain relief after surgery. A very gratifying surgery for the patient and surgeon.
