Wide of Hoods being brought into court detention centre STORYLINE Suspected Australian drug trafficker Andrew Hoods was brought to the Bangkok court criminal court on Friday by Thai narcotics police in order to extend his custody. Under Thai law police can detain a suspect without charge for 48 hours but have to gain a court permission to hold the suspect longer for questioning. The 36-year old Hoods was arrested by customs personnel at the Suvarnabhumi Airport on Tuesday as he reportedly attempted to smuggle three kilogrammes (6.6 pounds) of heroin out of Thailand, according to Thai customs officers. Officers said seven bags of heroin worth 12 (m) millions baths (approximately 350-thousand US dollars) were found strapped to Hoods' abdomen, thigh, and calves, just before he boarded a flight to Sydney, Australia. When asked by reporters why he was smuggling heroin, Hoods said that he was unemployed and he needed the money. Drug trafficking is punishable by death under Thai law.
