In this presentation given at the 2016 Baseball Sports Medicine Conference, Dr. Anthony A. Romeo discusses case-based modern multimodal analgesia. Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience. Managing pain around the time of surgery is key for all patients, including athletes. With huge issues around the use and abuse of opioids medications, we need to think about how to get away from opioids as a pain management strategy. Understanding pain pathways is key to managing pain. It's a complex topic, but with 73 million surgeries happening a year, we must use better solutions so we no longer have the majority of patients reporting moderate to extreme pain at the time of surgery.
