A mere nine days later, the fledgling state was invaded by Indonesia. The occupation would last years, and during this time thousands would perish as a result of the occupation by the military regime, estimates ranging from 100,000 to 300,000. This number coming from a population of only 650,000. Hundreds of thousands were forcibly resettled with starvation used a tool to impose the Indonesian’s will.
