A federal judge has ruled that the CBC can hide its internal corporate spending , including advertising budgets and executive perks, from public view under the Access to Information Act. The court stated that disclosing these records would harm the broadcaster and that its expenditures are not of “public importance,” even though the CBC receives $1.6 billion in direct taxpayer funding every year. At the same time, the Canada Revenue Agency is quietly revising its audit scope to finally target large multinational corporations with offshore accounts and complex tax structures. Internal complaints revealed auditors had been wasting time chasing smaller businesses that were easier to prosecute. While high-risk multinationals, using offshore structures to avoid billions in Canadian taxes , largely escaped scrutiny. One example is Brookfield Asset Management, which has avoided an estimated $6.5 billion in taxes that could have gone to Canadian services. This comes as the average federal public servant now costs taxpayers $143,271 per year, the workforce has grown more than 40% since 2015, and many employees report to seven layers of management. In this clip from The Really Big Show, we connect the dots on a clear pattern: weak transparency, selective enforcement, and exploding public-sector costs at a time when everyday Canadians are struggling with affordability.
