I covered Michael Franks' version of “Chain Reaction,” which he wrote the lyrics for and sang, on bass. It was recorded on the 1977 album “Sleeping Gypsy.” Let's compare the original Crusaders version (left), released in 1975, with Michael Franks' version (right) by looking at the musicians. On Michael Franks' version, Samborn plays the alto saxophone solo and obbligato. The overall structure feels nearly identical. The album features the renowned arranger and conductor Klaus Ogerman on strings, but I believe this particular track doesn't utilize a string ensemble. While Ogerman's strings might seem out of place on this funk-infused rhythm track, it's fun to imagine what kind of color they might have added if they had been included. MOGAMI 2497 with FURUTECH FP704G Plug VOVOX sonorus protect A Instrument Cable The original track was input from an iPad via a Focusrite Clarett+ 4 Pre (used as a DAC) into the YAMAHA MG12 mixer (OYAIDE PA-02 XLR V2). While listening to this playback, the bass was played simultaneously, with the D.I. output fed into the mixer.
