I wanted to share all the amazing nature tours and wildlife experiences one can do around Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The Mayan Riviera is famous for the Caribbean beaches and big, mostly all-inclusive resorts. But it has so much more to offer. This area has jungle, with all its incredible fauna and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. This means we have amazing birding all year round, with various emblematic tropical species, like toucans, aracaris, parrots, flamingos, and various raptor species. We also have two monkey species in the forest, which can be observed even around certain hotels. Ask me in the comments if you need recommendations. Simply looking for monkeys make for an amazing nature tour. Reptile lovers have it all as well. Snakes, lizards, iguanas, and exotic frogs can be find in the forests. While those who are looking for some intense and extreme adventure, there is Kantemo with its cave where snakes are hunting the bats every single night. Also should not forget about Banco Chinchorro and the saltwater crocodiles... Divers have great options too. All year round great diving with turtles, eagle and sting rays, morays and bog school of colorful reef fishes make for great dives on the reef. In the winter you can also dive with bull sharks, and snorkel with baitballs and sailfish. In the summer from June to August everybody can swim with the biggest fish in the world, with the whale sharks. These tours are accessible for anybody and even have a chance to see manta rays as well.
