In this video, I give you a full update on the final stages of my New Zealand firearms license application. After months of waiting, I break down exactly what happened during the interview process, the security inspection, and the final hurdles I had to clear before officially receiving my license in the mail. In This Video: The Interview Process: I discuss the interviews conducted with my referee (45 mins), my wife (30 mins), and myself (1 hour). Despite being repetitive, the process was friendly and straightforward. Storage Inspection: A look at my storage setup. I used a $150 secondhand steel safe bolted to both the studs and the concrete floor, which passed inspection with flying colors. Medical Review: I share my experience with a specific "hiccup" regarding my ADHD medication. This triggered a review by a panel and required a $20 letter from my GP to confirm everything was under control. Processing Times: Insight into current backlogs due to the timing of COVID-era renewals. My Application Timeline: Started: End of June 2025. Interviews: Early December. Case Officer Review: January 26th. License Received: February 13th. Total Time: Approximately 9 months. Final Thoughts: Owning a firearm in New Zealand is a privilege, not a right. While the process took nearly nine months, the communication from the Firearms Safety Authority was excellent and the staff were incredibly helpful. If you are thinking about applying, my advice is to start early and enjoy the journey. Note: Regulations are expected to change in August 2026, so I may do another update then to see how the process evolves. #firearmsafety #newzealand #hunting
