I performed a VW engine valve adjustment to ensure everything was operating as expected, the VW engine valves seemed noisy before despite having adjusted them. I went back and looked at my previous valve adjustment video and could not figure out where I went wrong, maybe I used the wrong feeler gauge... I'm not certain. But I went through and readjustment them all anyway, ensuring there was a proper drag between VW engine rockers and VW engine valves on the 0.006in feeler gauge. After that I discovered an oddity with the VW Solex carburetor accelerator pump. Previously I inspected everything from the fire yesterday, and replaced or repaired the damaged wires. I properly timed the VW Beetle distributor with my timing gun and the engine ran about the same as it did before. I discovered a dead cylinder at low RPMs, I don't feel this was causing much of the rev up issues, but it was causing the shaky engine problem at idle. Time to swap out my VW Beetle 009 distributor for a proper VW Beetle SVDA 034 distributor clone to silence the mass of naysayers that claim I have a VW distributor problem! Got a couple surprises... some good, some bad, and had an accident followed by another! LoL! It seemed to make the engine happier than the Dual Weber 34 ICT Carburetors, but it still has problems when trying to rev it. As it turns out the NOS VW Solex carb has its own set of problems which I just can't seem to figure out. It behaves like there is a massive vacuum leak, despite one not being found. Must be something internal... but can't find it, so swapped the carb with another and a majority of the problems went away! So what engine is Eleanore the 1956 Chop Top VW Oval Beetle going to get? Well right now this VW Beetle will get a 1600 dual port stock VW Engine because I have one ready after removing the stock 1600 VW dual port engine that I found loose parts inside of. I also have almost enough parts to build a 2165 VW engine with 94mm pistons and a 78mm crank with an Engle cam, some dual Dellorto carburetors or Weber Carburetors, and a merged header exhaust should more than double the horsepower. There will probably be even more after that, I guess we'll see! The best of both worlds!
