#EndeGelaende DAY 2: A lot of groups and activists (FridayforFuture, Extinction Rebellion, Parents for Future.. ) joined Ende Gelände for a peaceful protest along the largest coal mine in Europe (1h40 outside Brussels) in several locations at the same time. At a given signal, activists broke the police line an ran into the fields in the direction of the pit, to block the mining operations operations. The action has a double impact: 1- It's is EFFICIENT: Parts of the plants and mine were completely stopped, reducing the 240.000 Tons of daily CO2 emissions. 2- It's also SYMBOLIC: a small group (we were 6000 to break into the mine) of non violent activists can have a more significant impact in one day than governments and corporations over several decades. I would encourage everyone who lost hope in our leaders and governments to start actions of civil disobedience and start taking our future in our own hands. I'm currently working on an audiovisual project on the 'Technologically sublime' depicting the coal mining activities, its impact in the region, and documenting the actions to shut it down. ------------------------------------------------------------ More details: The largest coal mine in Europe is only 1 hour and 40 minutes outside Brussels, and its four (yes 4 !!) dirty power plants burning coal 24/7. German government just gave them the green light to burn coal for 19 more years (until 2038), so I'm joining Ende Gelände for civil disobedience actions to shut down the mines and coal plants immediately.
