An 88-year-old elderly patient presented with breathing difficulties persisting for the past six months. The initial suspicion was asthma or COPD, but considering that asthma typically develops in childhood, it was ruled out. A detailed chest examination revealed unequal air entry, with reduced airflow on the left side of the lung, suggesting an underlying obstructive lung condition. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a progressive condition that causes airflow limitation and breathing difficulties. To manage his condition, bronchodilation was identified as a key treatment approach. Medications such as Deryphyllin and Toxiphyllin can be administered to relax the airway muscles and improve airflow. Additionally, injections of Hydrocortisone and Methylprednisolone can help reduce inflammation in the airways, preventing further respiratory distress. These interventions aim to enhance lung function, reduce symptoms, and improve the patient's overall breathing capacity. Dr. Abhishek Shukla explained this case to the students, emphasizing the importance of a thorough clinical evaluation in differentiating respiratory conditions. He highlighted how subtle differences in air entry during a chest examination can provide crucial diagnostic clues. The discussion also covered the role of bronchodilators in COPD management, reinforcing the need for individualized treatment strategies to improve the quality of life for elderly patients with chronic respiratory illnesses. #AasthaCares #COPDManagement #ElderlyCare #RespiratoryHealth #BreathingIssues #Bronchodilation #PulmonaryCare #GeriatricMedicine #LungHealth #MedicalEducation #ComprehensiveCare
