Materials requisition can be defined as – Source document production managers use to request materials for production; used to assign materials costs to specific jobs or overhead. Materials requisition forms are generally used in manufacturing companies, companies which manufacture inventory, the two costing systems generally used being a job costing system and a process costing system, both systems transforming inventory from raw materials to work in process to finished goods. Job order production is often used when the units being produced are not the same, customized in some way, and when units produced are more costly. Job costs sheet will help track the costs of inventory related to a particular job through the production process as the work is completed. Material requisition forms help track the raw materials as it moves from raw materials to a specific job or process. Job costs sheets will support the work in process and finished goods accounts in a similar way as a subsidiary ledger in order by customers will support the accounts receivable account. The jobs costs sheet will be another way to organize costs and transactions other than the general ledger which is ordered by date of transaction.
