What causes brain tumours? Meningioma is a benign variety of brain tumour that needs special mention. Gliomas and other malignant tumours are brain cancers and are dealt with in a separate video. What is a meningioma? There is no particular reason for a brain tumour to be caused, occasionally it has a genetic component. Brain tumors may be non cancerous(benign) or cancerous(malignant). They may arise primarily in the brain (primary brain tumours) or may spread to the brain from a cancer elsewhere in the body(secondary). This is also called a brain metastasis.
