Above the arcuate line, the aponeuroses of the internal oblique split to envelop the rectus abdominis both anteriorly and posteriorly, while the aponeuroses of the external oblique and transversus abdominis contribute to the anterior and posterior layers, respectively. Below the arcuate line, all three aponeuroses pass anterior to the rectus abdominis, leaving the muscle in direct contact with the transversalis fascia posteriorly. This structural arrangement provides strength and stability to the abdominal wall and assists in maintaining intra-abdominal pressure. 💪 The rectus sheath also contains important neurovascular structures, including the superior and inferior epigastric arteries and veins, and the terminal branches of the lower six thoracoabdominal nerves, which supply the rectus abdominis muscles and overlying skin. Understanding the anatomy of the rectus sheath is vital for surgical procedures involving the anterior abdominal wall and for diagnosing hernias and other abdominal pathologies. 🩺 #RectusSheath #AnteriorAbdominalWall #MedicalEducation #FMGE #NEETPG #USMLE #AnatomyLearning #ClinicalAnatomy #Healthcare #MedStudentLife #StudyNotes #SurgicalAnatomy #HumanAnatomy #AbdominalWall #HealthcareProfessionals #MedSchool #AnatomyStudy #MedicalStudies #AbdominalSurgery #AbdominalPathology
