At long last, we can finally have a battle against the true champion of Unova, Alder. His team is interesting, consisting of 3 Bug-types in Accelgor, Escavalier, and his ace, Volcarona, along with a Druddigon and two other random ‘mons like Vanilluxe and Bouffalant. Not a bad lineup, but this team shares a weakness to Fire and Rock, both of which should be pretty easy to exploit. My Emboar took down his Accelgor, Bouffalant, and Escavalier, but then I left Volcarona to my Carracosta due to its Fire resistance and Bug neutrality. Druddigon almost became a threat to my team with a surprise Outrage that took down my Haxorus upon switching in, making my Sigilyph take care of it instead with Ice Beam (would be really nice if Carracosta could have Ice Fang to deal with it itself.) Vanilluxe was the last Pokémon to come out, and while I could’ve used my Sigilyph’s Hidden Power Fighting to get past it, I knew it wouldn’t have been a OHKO due to Vanilluxe’s decent Special Defense and lack of a quad-weakness, so I decided to make a switch instead. Regardless, it still wasn’t an issue though, as it’s easily walled and defeated by my Carracosta, or any other Fire-type, Water-type, or Steel-type for that matter, due to its shallow offensive movepool. Alder’s Volcarona can be a threat with Quiver Dance and Druddigon can catch you by surprise if you’re unprepared, but this battle wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle.
