After weeks of renovating my attic office in our 200-year-old Scottish cottage — painting, laying new wood flooring, updating electrics and building a custom workstation — it finally feels good to pause and enjoy the space. But this week isn’t another build. Since moving to our traditional countryside cottage in Scotland, many of you have said I should be an interior designer… and today I’m sharing how I actually approach designing homes — my way. I’m drawn to darker tones, layered lighting and elegant, cocooning spaces that feel calm, atmospheric and lived-in. Whether it’s a historic stone cottage or a modern new-build, I believe good design isn’t about trends — it’s about creating warmth, character and a space that truly reflects the people living there. In this episode, I’m taking you behind the scenes of several client projects (shared with permission) to explain not just what I designed — but why. We’ll also revisit our previous new-build home and talk about why even newer properties don’t have to feel soulless or bland. Living in a traditional Scottish cottage has shaped how I think about interiors — respecting history, but never feeling trapped by it. Also this week, we installed automatic roman blinds - a new range from his weeks sponsor SmartWings in our neighbour’s home. Thanks for being here with us in our wee corner of Scotland — we genuinely appreciate every single one of you.
