Starting at the waterfalls above the Talybont reservoir this hike climbs up onto the first leg of the Brecon's horseshoe. Starting on Craig Y Fan Du we follow the ridge to the true summit of Waun Rydd. We then reach the impressive cairn of Carn Pica on the eastern aspect of Waun Rydd. In my view this is by far one of the most quiet and best view points in the whole national park. We then find the Wellington Bomber crash site memorial on the slopes of Waun Rydd and move up onto the ridge after paying respects. We take the horseshoe ridge as far as Fan-Y-Big summit and then return as part of a circular route. Summits include- Craig y Fan Ddu, Graig Fan Las, Carn Pica, Waun Rydd, Bwlch y Ddwyallt (Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion), Craig Cwareli and Fan Y Big.
