Railfanning Helena, Montana - 10/18/17 // Trinity Rail Productions

This video was shot on a cool October evening at the west end of Montana Rail Link's yard in Helena, MT, featuring several BNSF trains waiting to head west and an MRL yard crew switching cars. Besides switching, equipment maintenance, and other typical yard operations, MRL uses Helena as a helper station for trains that operate westbound over Mullan Pass. Upcoming videos will go deeper into the railroad's impressive helper operations on the pass. Several grade crossings in town, including the Roberts Street crossing where this video was shot, were made quiet zones a few months after this recording was made. There were several articles published on local news sites about the story, but current FRA documentation on these crossings do not indicate that they're quiet zones for some reason.
