Since 1987 it is now known as the official National March of the United States of America. Sousa wrote the march on Christmas Day 1896, writing it in his head first before committing it to paper after arriving back in the USA when his cruise ship arrived. Lyrics (by Sousa): Let martial note in triumph float And liberty extend its mighty hand A flag appears 'mid thunderous cheers, The banner of the Western land.
