VALENTINEs is in the air! Feb 14th is the day of LOVE all OVER the WORLD. gifts are exchanged and LOVE is celebrated. while in JAPAN its CHOCOLATES DAY. In JAPAN the traditional way that valentines celebrated is for Girls to give CHOCOLATES to the boy she like. Valentines in Japan way back in 1950's represent the changes that occurred in Japan cultural norms. Back then, female "KOKUHAKU" or the act of confessing one's feelings was considered as "TABOO". VALENTINES day got popular in Japan because it established a day when it was accepted for women to take a risk and confess their feeling without getting judged. Valentine' day also become popular in 1950's due in part to few notable business campaigns particularly a Confectionary that began selling Heart- shaped chocolates during this season. There are Types of Chocolates given depends on relationship; 1. GIRI CHOCO - are known as OBLIGATION CHOCOLATES that doles out to family members, workmates and acquaintances. this type of chocolate is relatively cheaper and no romantic gesture. 2. HONMIE CHOCO - FAVORITE CHOCOLATES are meant to be given to a romantic partner. 3. TOMO CHOCO - TOMODACHI/FRIEND CHOCOLATES given to a female friend. But most Chocolates given during valentines are the GIRI CHOCO & HONMIE CHOCO.
