Film showing how the Xmas spirit remained even during troubled times. Gun turret. Barrage balloon being inflated in park. View looking down on central London traffic going around a corner. Bomb damaged John Lewis store, Oxford Street? Traffic warden standing in road as London buses drive past. Stall set up on footpath or pavement, with battery operated military toys for sale; a crowd has formed to see the toys. Toy tank moves along the pavement. Old man wearing overcoat and flat cap demonstrates his moving toys and makes a sale, pocketing the coins. Sign in shop window promoting safety during shopping, spotters on the roof! Church, vicar walks down steps where a sign is pointing to the ARP shelter. Church organist playing. Altar boys light candles. Preparation for service. Two horse team ploughing a field in the countryside. Children carol singing in village. Child blows on his cold hands. Girl leafs through carol sheets and they start a new song. View up to church steeple. Church service with full pews. Candles carried down aisle. Congregation is seated. Woman in congregation crosses herself. Incense burner is lit. Close ups of adult faces in the audience. Priest at altar. Congregation sing hymns. A decorated Christmas tree is in the church. Exterior of the church showing bomb damage. Contents of the box are shown with gift card, a present of a golliwog and panda toy. Back to mass in the church service with congregation standing and the servers exiting the church holding their candlesticks, followed by the priest. Countryside views, large trees line a riverbank. Woman plays a waltz on the piano and young boy blows up a balloon and the tree continues to be decorated by a group of children. A hand written sign welcomes evacuee guests to the Christmas party. Dark quiet street with view up the road. A hand turns the dial on a radio or transistor. Children getting ready. Young girls seated on lounge room floor in front of grandad sitting in his armchair. Three young girls of ever decreasing age each get a kiss from grandpa and a hand shake. Children are walked upstairs in their pyjamas and jump into their beds. Bedroom is decorated in decorations and woman tucks them in. Little boy brushes his teeth. View of the ceiling covered in tinsel and Xmas garlands. Three girls say their prayers kneeling beside the bed. Older woman wearing a hat, sits and knits. Three girls all climb into the same double brass bed and are tucked in with a smile. Mother goes downstairs in dark. Children sleeping. Church with pews being rearranged by many people. Father gives directions. Teenagers sitting on floor reading books. Woman still knitting. Girls asleep in bed as woman hangs stockings up on Christmas eve and places gifts on the bed for them. The gollywog and panda soft toy are laid beside them as the sleep.
