THE KNIT SHOW: The Knitting Trends Episode

On The Trends Episode of The Knit Show with Vickie Howell we focused on the state of the art of knitting today. This includes yarn trends, popular items to make, modern applications of techniques, new products, and more! First up, we meet this week’s Knit Hive! Next, we’re in the studio with the Meghan Fernandes the editor/publisher of one of the coolest, yarn-centric magazines out there, PomPom Quarterly! Meghan let’s us in on trends for pattern, draping, and shaping, then teaches us how to use Judy’s Magic Cast-on to work the Picot Sock from the toe-up, and how to use short rows to create a heel. We leave the studio for a bit, and head to Columbus, Ohio where Vickie gives an insider’s look at the needle arts industry market conference, TNNA. Later, we’re back with Kathy Elkins, the Co-owner of one of the largest yarn stores and e-commerce sites, WEBS. Kathy shares with us the types of projects that are most popular with her costumers right now, then shows how to knit the Northfield Gradient shawl which is worked from tip-to-tip then topped off with an on-trend ruffle. We end the episode with a Vic’s Tip: a tour through different types of knitting needles, showing when and why to choose a particular type of needle based on project, material, and/or technique.
