Video Summary: 00:00 Introduction The Perdomo 20th Century Maduro was reviewed using the Bespoke Unit Cigar Formula, a quantifiable review matrix. Furthermore, the cigars have been stored in a Boveda acrylic humidor with 69% Boveda packs for a period of three weeks to ensure that they were properly acclimated and ready to be evaluated. 00:53 Cigar Overview This cigar was manufactured at the Perdomo factory in Esteli, also known as El Monstro. It features a Nicaraguan Sun Grown Maduro wrapper, which has been aged for 8 years as well as 14 months in bourbon whisky barrels. Its binder and filler consists of Jalapa, Condega and Esteli tobaccos. 02:15 Look & Feel The cigar's wrapper has a somewhat matte finish with few oils. The roll is generally straight but there are some soft spots. However, it does have a firm spring in the body. The aromas deliver tonka bean, charred oak, and molasses. 03:17 Prelight Expect a good draw with excellent airflow. Its aromas consist of tonka bean, agarwood, and fresh walnut. It's reminiscent of a mid-winter log fire. 04:04 Tasting Notes The first third reveals notes of tonka bean, cinnamon, and fragrant rosewood. Meanwhile, the second third features charred bay leaf, agarwood, and black pepper. Finally, the last third produces notes of oak, black pepper, and bay leaf. It's an overall complex cigar with a smooth mouthfeel. While the palate stimulation tends to focus near the centre, it doesn't have any astringency issues that cause excessive dryness or salivation. 08:49 Burn The draw remains consistent and the cigar offers cool smoke. There were some burning issues, which needed correcting. The ash can also get quite flaky and comes off easily. 09:29 Overall Experience The cigar features the same style of band as the Sun Grown and Connecticut blends. It's large and appears that it should be two bands. However, the black colour scheme is subtler than the others. It comes in a 5-cigar count presentation box with individual packaging for each cigar. Therefore, it's a great gift and suitable for special occasions. However, be sure that they are adept smokers given the body of the cigar, which is unsuitable for newcomers. Typically, the cigar will cost around $9.50 each but purchasing a 24-count box will lower the individual price. 11:10 Pairings Consider enjoying the cigar with cured ham like prosciutto or dark chocolate. Walnuts are also an excellent choice. Meanwhile, the cigar having been aged in whisky barrels, this would be a fine choice to complement the flavours. Espresso is often pleasant with a cigar, but we suggest an Americano or a long black to enjoy the coffee for longer. If you're fond of wine, consider also a red Zinfandel (as opposed to a Californian white) or Primitivo, which has a rich full body and heavy tannins.
