Great Falls, Mont., sits right in the heart of Montana, in the middle of Big Sky country. The Missouri River snakes through one of the windiest cities in the United States. Famed American Western artist Charles Marion Russell settled in the Electric City. The Lewis and Clark Expedition had to portage around the area's five waterfalls in 1805. It was also home to former Montana Grizzly quarterback Dave Dickenson, who was voted as the No. 1 male athlete in the first 50 years of the Big Sky Conference. The Big Sky Conference (BSC) is collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I, with football competing in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Member institutions include Eastern Washington, Idaho State, University of Montana, Montana State, University of North Dakota, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, and Weber State. UC Davis and Cal Poly are football-only participants. The Big Sky sponsors championships in 15 sports, including men's and women's basketball, indoor and outdoor track and field, cross country, and tennis. There are championships in football and women's volleyball, golf, soccer, and softball.
