REVIVAL PRUNING Large overgrown shrubs can be pruned with a rejuvenation pruning. This heavy pruning removes most or all of the top of the plant and depends on the roots to provide enough energy to replace the shoots to get the Root To Shoot balance back. A revival pruning is the same as a rejuvenation pruning, but is done to a shrub that has been harmed, such as from winter storm damage that has killed most or all of the top of the plant. It is riskier than a rejuvenation pruning because we know that the Root to Shoot balance is already out of balance.
