Satara Doctor Suicide: Doctors Stage Black-Band Protest, Warn of Statewide Demonstration

A woman doctor at Phaltan Sub-District Hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district died by suicide, leaving a note on her palm accusing Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane of rape and sexual harassment, and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment. She reportedly lived as a tenant in a flat owned by Bankar's father. Both have been booked for rape and abetment of suicide. Police have arrested Prashant Bankar, while Sub-Inspector Badane remains absconding, with a search underway. Following her death, doctors in Mumbai and other districts staged black band protests demanding justice and immediate action. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors has called for a statewide demonstration.
