The Dutch Fort on Delft Island in Sri Lanka is a star-shaped fort built in the 17th century by the Dutch East India Company. It is located on the east coast of the island, about 10 kilometres off the coast of Jaffna. The fort was used to protect the island's valuable horse breeding industry, as well as to control shipping in the Palk Strait. The fort is now in ruins, but it is still an impressive sight. The walls are made of limestone and coral, and are about 10 meters thick in some places. There are four bastions at the corners of the fort, and a gate on the east side. Inside the fort, there are the ruins of a number of buildings, including a church, a barracks, and a powder magazine. The Dutch Fort is a popular tourist destination and is also an important historical site. It is one of the best-preserved examples of a Dutch fort in Sri Lanka. In addition to the fort, there are a number of other Dutch ruins on Delft Island, including a church, a stable, and a dovecote. These ruins are all located in the northern part of the island, close to the village of Delft. Delft Island is a beautiful island with a rich history. It is a great place to visit for anyone interested in Sri Lankan history, culture, and nature. #delftisland #srilanka
