Continuing to explore Strega on its own as a sound design machine. If you've been reading my past video descriptions this week, you would have seen me say that Strega only has a single oscillator as a sound source. It also has an external audio input jack that can be used to treat Strega more as an effect than a synth, or you can combine internal and external audio in interesting ways: mixing them, sure, but also using the external audio as an audio-rate modulation source, or using the built-in envelope follower for external audio to modulate other parameters. Look around YouTube and you can see everything from other synths, to acoustic instruments, to vocals (and more) fed into Strega to be chewed up and spit out again. During Jamuary2022, on January 13, I uploaded a video where I made a dark ambient soundscape by touching the loose end of a cable connected to an effects unit (   • #Jamuary2022 Day 13: dark ambient from an ...  ). OK, it hasn't been my most popular video, but it did have some positive feedback, and more importantly, it was fun to make. I am by no means the first person to come up with this idea, but I was pleasantly surprised to see this technique suggested in the Strega manual: "Patch a dummy cable to External Input with Strength at 9:00 or greater, and generate human sound by touch by touching the other end of the cable. While touching the cable, any Touch Bridge you touch will also be injected into the Strega experiment. (Thanks Jon King for this observation)". As with most of my earlier Strega videos, I added some stereo width and space in Ableton Live with the Arturia Dist COLDFIRE and Rev PLATE-140 plugins, and automated mastering with iZotope Ozone 10.
