NSW XPT Train celebrated their 40th birthday in 2022. Indeed, they have provided reliable and consistent interstate service from NSW all that time so kudos to them on their 40th. However, this service also feels 40 years old. It is seriously outdated and in need of an urgent update. Thus, the NSW government has plans to modernise the train in 2023 with new trains set to be rolling about. But a dispute has seen this timeline thrown into jeopardy and there is no updates about when the new trains will arrive. There are also no updates whether the new trains will feature a Sleeper service. So we can only assume that until told otherwise, this service will die a natural death once the new trains arrive.
