ASDA/Walmart tea light cluster USB mod

These little lights are being sold in ASDA (and possibly Walmart too) as part of the George range of Xmas lights. Each pack has six of these lights which are powered by a single CR2032 button cell. Although they last a decent amount of time, they do get dim quite quickly, and it seems wasteful to burn through 2032 lithium cells to keep these things powered. By hacking in a USB lead and suitable resistor, you can make them run continuously at low power. I chose a 100 ohm resistor, which gives a total current of about 25mA on a USB supply. You could also use a 47 ohm resistor for around 50mA. In both instances, a standard quarter watt resistor should be ideal. You can either drill a small hole in the side of the tea light case and put the resistor and joins inside, or you can just have the cluster of LEDs on the end of the cable. If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:- https://www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty. #ElectronicsCreators
