Nollywood veteran Abiodun Ayoyinka, famously known for his role as "Papa Ajasco" in Wale Adenuga’s long-running sitcom, has opened up about the financial struggles he has faced throughout his career. In a candid interview with podcaster Lucky Udu, the 65-year-old actor revealed that after decades in the industry, he still has "no house, no car." Ayoyinka expressed frustration over the trademarked status of his character, which prevents him from participating in endorsements, advertisements, or billboards without permission. Despite the show’s popularity across Africa, pay has barely increased, from ₦2,500 per episode in 1997 to ₦45,000 today. Having retired from his job at the Lagos State Ministry, Ayoyinka described his situation as painful and unstable, sparking calls for fairer contracts and residuals in Nollywood.
