La visita al Bosco di San Francesco di Assisi, splendido esempio di paesaggio rurale italiano di 64 ettari e oltre 800 anni di storia, è molto di più. Si tratta di un vero e proprio cammino interiore alla scoperta di quel messaggio di perfetta armonia tra Uomo e Creato che San Francesco insegnò al mondo proprio a partire da questi luoghi. Per diventare protagonisti di questa nuova forma di pellegrinaggio del Terzo Millennio nella natura, nella storia e nel sacro, siete invitati a percorrere lo stretto sentiero che, partendo dalla Basilica di San Francesco e passando per la Selva di San Francesco, di proprietà della Basilica Papale - Sacro Convento di San Francesco d'Assisi, attraversa terreni boschivi e campi coltivati, radure e oliveti. Giunti a fondovalle, potrete scoprire le testimonianze di un microcosmo abitato, a cavallo tra il XIII e XIV secolo, da monache benedettine che comprende una chiesa, un mulino, i resti di un ospedale e di un monastero e, più avanti, un'antica torre-opificio dalla quale è possibile ammirare e vivere il "Terzo Paradiso", la straordinaria opera di Land Art del Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto realizzata appositamente per il Bosco di San Francesco. Benché la natura e il paesaggio siano l'anima di questo angolo di Umbria, per comprendere in tutte le varie sfaccettature il messaggio che dal Bosco ha origine è necessario che essi siano letti e compresi confrontandoli con la storia, l'opera dell'uomo e l'attività degli ordini religiosi che qui hanno vissuto e operato. Tre chiavi di lettura di questo sistema storico - paesaggistico, tre percorsi indipendenti ma fra loro sovrapponibili: il "percorso paesaggistico" che mette in evidenza il ruolo storico del paesaggio rurale italiano; il "percorso storico" che racconta la storia del luogo attraverso i suoi edifici originari; il "percorso spirituale" che favorisce una profonda riflessione sul rapporto storico, attuale e futuro tra Uomo e Natura. __________________________________ Not a simple walk in the woods or a nature hike.
