Welcome to the Dame Shirley Bassey Archive for 2018. The images are in chronological order to the best of my knowledge. 2018 begins with Dame Shirley Bassey topping the bill at the Sir Bruce Forsyth tribute, stunning everyone with her fabulous looks and faultless performance. There were a couple of very under reported events in Europe this year, a return to the Rose Ball in Monaco with Isabel Kristensen and Manel Dalgo in attendance. DSB was a presenter at the NHS Heroes awards and then travelled to Snowdonia for the unveiling of a train carriage in her name. A garden party at Buckingham Palace was followed by a trip to Austria I think with Dame Joan Collins and Rupert Everett. DSB presented an award to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber at the Classic Brit Awards before going back to Monaco for a Fight Aids Monaco event with Manel Dalgo and Princess Stephanie. Wimbledon was next, to watch Serena Williams play and a lovely reunion with Sir Cliff Richard. Dame Shirley became a great grandmother this year and then appeared in UK Vogue. A trip to Spain and a fun night at El Pimpi's, meanwhile the Royal Albert Hall opened a Walk Of Fame with a salute to DSB which read " With More Than 45 Performances At The Hall Since 1971". Next was Los Angeles for the Amfar Gala where DSB sang 4 songs and wowed the crowd again looking stunning in a new creation from Isabell Kristensen who was there on the night along with Team Bassey who have provided such strong support this past year. Bravo. The year rounds out back in London for the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, and Julien Macdonald's Benefit show for the National Osteoporosis Society, looking simply divine. The year ends with a Christmas party thrown by Evgeny Ledbedev. The music for this edition is taken from the performance Dame Shirley gave at the beginning of the year to honour Sir Bruce Forsyth, Almost Like Being In Love/ This Can't Be Love and a remix of Light My Fire. I do hope you enjoy this edition of the archives, best wishes, Carl. I have been collecting Dame Shirley for over 45 years and have digitised my entire collection by date from newspapers, magazines, photos, programs, sheet music and of course the music. I hope this series of videos will help tell Dame Shirley's story in a lineal way for fans new and old. As a child whenever I found a photo of Dame Shirley I would wonder what the story behind the picture was, and I still do. I would cut out news clippings and put together multiple scrapbooks, then the internet came along and an explosion of knowledge. Now I know some of the stories behind many of the photos and hope you get enjoyment in finding these stories too.
