This educational workshop is led by Dr. Claudine Jones-Bourne, board-certified psychiatrist, and focuses on the intersection of eating disorders and substance use disorders, including why these conditions frequently co-occur and how they impact emotional regulation, impulse control, shame cycles, and long-term recovery. In this session, we discuss: • Restriction, bingeing, purging, alcohol use, and substance misuse • Risk factors, warning signs, and treatment pathways • The role of psychotherapy, medication, and structured recovery programs • How to approach someone struggling with eating disorders or substance use This workshop emphasizes mental health literacy, early recognition, and understanding treatment options, not diagnosis or individualized medical advice. Eating disorders and substance use disorders are both serious conditions that can require professional support. Early intervention improves outcomes, especially when co-occurring symptoms are addressed together rather than separately. This session is part of the All Things Mental Health Course, a structured lecture series designed to reduce stigma, increase insight, and help individuals recognize when to seek support for themselves or loved ones. The format is lecture-based. Live viewers are encouraged to participate respectfully in the chat. This content is intended for adults interested in mental health education and wellness.
