The USC Young Scientists Program strives to deliver quality science education weekly to a handful of LAUSD elementary schools. Due to the pandemic and prominence of virtual learning, videos like this one are being made to distribute to the teachers. This week, we will be investigating how buoyancy helps boats float. Video was made by Mari Rustebakke. This activity is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. Specifically, the NGSS standards - K-2-ETS1-2. Develop a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem. K-2-ETS1-3. Analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each performs. The funds for this video was provided by the USC Good Neighbors Campaign grant.
