The Liberty Tower is South Bend's tallest building at 25 floors. The building opened in 1971 as the American National Bank Building with an Albert Pick Motor Inn inside. Eventually, the hotel turned into a Holiday Inn and the building's name changes to the Valley American Bank Building in 1983. Then, the name changes again to City Center when Valley American Bank is absorbed into National City in 1998. The building then turned into the Bank One Plaza until that absorbed into Chase Bank. Finally, in 2005 the bank is replaced with a Chase Bank and the building is renamed the Chase Tower. The Holiday Inn eventually also turned, into a Ramada and a Magnuson Grand Hotel which closed in 2014. On the office side of the building, all of the tenants were kicked out after major issues in the building and Washington Square announced a 40 million dollar renovation on the building. I filmed the elevators on the office side of the building a couple years ago and I got stuck in them. Unfortunately, it looks like the elevators on the hotel side of the building got modernized by Otis, but hopefully the beautiful Haughton elevators on the office side are not modernized. We can only hope!
