In this video, I'm excited to show you how to make a cyclone out of a 55-gallon cardboard drum (Uline part S-7900). I'm building a Thien baffle-type cyclone, which is a more compact alternative to traditional commercial cyclones. Instead of a cone at the bottom, this design features a flat plate with a cut-out section near the inlet that allows dust to pass through. The design is based on J.P. Thien's original (https://www.jpthien.com/cy.htm). I built a smaller version of this a couple of years ago for my shop vac, and it did a great job of separating out bigger chips and keeping them out of the filter. Now, I'm scaling up to match my new dust collection system, which I previously showed in another video ( • Can Just Anyone Install DIY Dust Coll... ). 🙏 If you want to support what I do, please consider buying through my Amazon Affiliates link: https://amzn.to/2JFKjeQ 🙏 Donate: https://PayPal.Me/glennfrazee ------------------------------------ Follow me on: 🌐 Website: https://www.glennfrazee.com/ 📷 Instagram: / glenn.frazee 🔨 Instructables: https://www.instructables.com/member/... 0:00 Introduction 1:04 Adding the Inlet 6:37 The Thien Baffle 8:27 Hanging the Baffle 9:44 Adding the Outlet 10:11 Attaching the Baffle 10:50 Adding Viewports 13:31 Airflow Test Results (Before) 13:53 Adding the Cyclone to the DC System 16:19 Airflow Test Results (After) 16:37 Testing It Out 17:07 Outro
