Welcome to Destination Earth! Nova Scotia, Canada is a province covered in water. With only a small stretch of land connecting it to the neighboring province of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia is practically an island. In fact, even inland, you'll find many lakes, rivers and streams that run throughout the province. In the city of Halifax, just across the Halifax Harbour, the city section of Dartmouth can be found. Within Dartmouth lies Shubie Park. Here, visitors can stroll the paths (commonly occupied by dog owners and their furry companion's), see the geese and ducks which occupy the park, and enjoy the waterways that run through the area. In a previous video, we explored the Shubue canal by boat by renting some kayaks and paddling through a section called the "deep cut". Today we had a chance to keep with Keith Lehwald, the Acting Executive Director of the Shubenacadie Canal Commission. Here, he takes us through the history of the canal and the importance of the space, and why the Commission has invested time, money and resources into preserving this iconic piece of Nova Scotia and Canadian history.
