Boise Firefighters conduct Rapid Intervention Training (R.I.T.) at 9th and River Street in downtown Boise. Rapid Intervention Teams (R.I.T. teams) are part of firefighting safety at fire scenes. The R.I.T. team sets up for rescue operations in case of an injured firefighter or similar emergency at a fire scene. Boise Firefighters practice R.I.T. tactics and techniques through instruction and simulation. Firefighters study incidents that have taken place at fire scenes across the country to identify lessons learned and best practices under difficult and hazardous conditions. This training takes place during Firefighter Safety Week as part of Boise Fire Department annual training. Over the five day period, approximately 250 personnel take part in the exercises that teach skills which can also apply to citizen rescue situations.
