Omeka and Open Exhibits collaborated to create a set of tools that enable museum and library staff to make their digital collections easily accessible to the public using touch screens in exhibit spaces and on smartphones and the web. The Omeka Everywhere project is a collaboration between The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, Ideum, and The University of Connecticut’s Digital Media & Design Department. Omeka Everywhere’s Collections Viewer and mobile app are free, open source applications designed to make it easy for museums and libraries to share their digital collections and archival materials. While exploring digitized archives on a multitouch table or large touch screen, visitors can then pair up to 8 mobile devices at a time with the Collections Viewer app. After saving their favorite content to their phones, visitors can share it to their favorite social media platform. The applications will be available through Open Exhibits and Omeka later this summer: http://www.openexhibits.org https://omeka.org This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services MG-30-0037-14.
