PennDOT closing 19th Street ramp to I-83 North; detour in place until 2027

A major traffic change is on the way for drivers in Harrisburg. Starting Sunday night, Aug. 24, PennDOT will close the 19th Street ramp to Interstate 83 north as part of its long-running Capital Beltway Project. The closure is expected to last until October 2027 while crews rebuild the 19th Street bridge and interchange. “It’s just part of the sequence of events that we need to get this project done,” said PennDOT Community Relations Coordinator Dave Thompson.
