March 1, 2026 || Preserve for the Promise Genesis 5 & 6 restorationmemphis.com This Sunday we walked through Genesis 5–6 and saw that though sin spreads and death reigns, God preserves a people so that His promise will prevail. Genesis 5 echoes with the refrain, “and he died,” reminding us that the consequences of sin are real and unavoidable. By Genesis 6, corruption has multiplied, and humanity is described as continually bent toward evil. Sin does not stay contained. It spreads aggressively. And yet, in the middle of judgment, grace is shown towards Noah. The flood did not cancel redemption — because God always preserves His promise. Key Points from the Sermon: Sermon Recap I. A Continued People and Continuing Consequences (Gen 5): Even as death reigned, God continued the promised line through Seth. The genealogy reminds us that while humanity multiplied, so did the consequences of sin. The promise moved forward, even under the shadow of death. II. The Continued Problem of Corruption (6:1-7): Sin intensified across the earth. Wickedness was not isolated, it was pervasive. When sin is left unchecked, it spreads further from God and distorts everything it touches. God’s holiness demands a response to corruption. III. The Continued Preservation and Covenant (6:8-22): Noah did not earn rescue; he found favor. In the midst of judgment, God preserved His covenant purposes. Preservation does not mean the absence of hardship, it means God will not abandon His saving plan or His covenant people. Main Point: From the start, God preserves a people so that His promise will prevail. Reflection Questions: 1. Where are you tempted to treat sin as something small or containable? 2. What does it look like to address sin early before it spreads? 3. How does knowing that God preserves His people give you confidence in uncertain cultural moments? 4. What does it mean practically to live as someone preserved by grace rather than performance? 5. How can we as a church live in a way that reflects trust in God’s promise? Next Steps: • Join a Community Group: If you haven't already, consider joining one of our community groups to dive deeper into these discussions and grow together in faith. If you cannot make it to one, find a friend in the church and reflect on the sermon together. Prayer Focus: • Praise God that His promises never fail. • Confess areas where sin has been left unchecked. • Thank Him that in Christ, we are secure. • Ask God to help our church walk faithfully like Noah, trusting Him even when the world drifts further from Him.
