Fly On, Brave One The caterpillar had become a butterfly. At dawn, I drew open the curtains and found it resting quietly on a kale leaf in the balcony. After nearly a month of waiting, the moment had finally come; the butterfly had emerged from its chrysalis. Overjoyed, I stepped into the small courtyard and picked a few flowers for it to sip nectar. Gently, I let it climb onto my palm and slowly moved it to the blossoms. I remembered how, as a caterpillar, it had two white markings on its back—like a pair of tiny bows. Now, after metamorphosis, those markings had transformed into four elegant lines. Viewed from behind, the ventral hindwings were edged with small dark crimson arrowheads, while the underside was dotted with vivid red spots—six on each side—gleaming like tiny rubies. Its body, too, was a striking red, standing out brilliantly in the sunlight. Before long, it flapped its wings and flew toward the window, eager to explore the outside world. I knew then—it was time to let it go. Though it hadn’t yet enjoy the breakfast I’d prepared, I couldn’t hold it inside any more. So I cupped it gently in my hands, slowly opened the window, and extended my arm into the breeze. A soft wind stirred, and its wings began to tremble. I thought, this is the moment. I tilted my palm, letting it to catch the current and soar. But to my surprise, it clung tightly to my thumb, unwilling to leave. After about three minutes, seeing it still not ready to take flight, I returned it to the flowers in the balcony to rest. I had to head out anyway, and thought—perhaps tomorrow. The next morning, I opened the window again, cradled it in my hand, and extended my arm, hoping it would ride the wind. But again, it showed no sign of wanting to fly. I gently placed it back onto the flowers. And just as its feet touched a flower, its wings suddenly fluttered. In an instant, it took off—flying through the open window and landing on a small tree outside. I rushed outdoors, hoping to catch a final glimpse before it disappeared. Step by step, I approached, eyes fixed on its tiny body. At last, I stood directly beneath it, gazing up. For a long while, it stayed still. I raised an arm and waved gently—no response as well. I softly tugged the branch it perched on—it didn’t move. Then, just as I let go of the branch, it finally rose, carried by the wind, higher and higher, until it reached the second-floor eaves. There it circled gracefully, like a tiny glider mastering its wings. Then it turned and flew toward the horizon—until it vanished from sight. I thought back to when it was still a caterpillar, how I used to look down at that tiny life—crawling slowly, munching on leaves, resting in stillness. Now it had become a butterfly, wings open to the sky, and I could only look up as it soared away. A tinge of reluctance stirred in my heart, but it was soon replaced by a quiet blessing: Fly on, brave one. Go forth and chase your dreams. The nectar plants seen in the video include Pentas (star cluster), Ixora, and Formosanum elderberry. 影片中看到的蜜源植物包括:繁星花、仙丹花和冇骨消 ——— Music Many thanks to the music performer.
