Bataan Cavite Interlink Bridge Design Concept 08Dec2020

Bataan and Cavite which the interlink bridge will connect were among the first Provinces in the country to rise in revolt against the tyranny of colonizers. In recognition of the gallantry and sacrifices of the citizens who staged the last defensive stand in Bataan and to further immortalize the bravery, tenacity and enduring faith of the Bataenos, our design concept of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink bridge showcases the image of two clasped hands depicting a gesture of worship. Hence, the name, “ SAMPALATAYA BRIDGE” (Bridge of Faith) for the North Channel main span between the Bataan Peninsula and Corregidor Island. The concrete pylons are partially cladded with duplex stainless steel-framed composite panels of sculptural abstract images of two hands, representative of the various forms of Faiths in the country. This design concept is carried through to the next Bridge span from Corregidor to Cavite. To honor Cavite’s historical landmark contribution of its struggles to gain independence for the country, the South Channel main span of the Interlink Bridge from Corregidor to Cavite is aptly named “PASALAMAT BRIDGE” (Bridge of Gratitude).
