Taiwan held its presidential and legislative elections on January 13, with candidates from the three major parties: the Democratic Progressive Party's Lai Ching-te and Bi-khim Hsiao, the Kuomintang's Hou Yu-ih and Jaw Shaw-kong, and the Taiwan People's Party's Ko Wen-je and Cynthia Wu. With Lai Ching-te and his running mate emerging victorious, the Democratic Progressive Party will continue to direct the future of cross-strait relations and Taiwan's political course for the upcoming four years. Key concerns in this episode include China's reaction, Taiwan's parliamentary division, the future of U.S.-Taiwan relations and the challenges for Taiwan's new president. Our guests are: Lai I-Chung Prospect Foundation President Alexander Huang KMT International Affairs Director Amanda Hsiao International Crisis Group Senior Analyst on China Tao Yi-feng National Taiwan University Political Science Associate Professor Wei-Ting Yen Franklin and Marshall College Assistant Professor of Government
