Full Title: Real World Impact: Supporting Researchers to Influence Policy and Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals As academic libraries increasingly align their missions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), understanding how scholarly research informs policy is critical. This panel will present early findings from a groundbreaking collaboration which analyzes the global policy impact of SDG-related research in a forthcoming report that offers insights into how research outputs—especially those from academic institutions—are shaping policy discourse worldwide. Panelists will explore key trends in SDG research and policy citation, including differences across varying geographies, the role of knowledge brokers such as think tanks, and the influence of Open Access and inclusive publishing practices. Special attention will be given to the implications for academic librarians: how they can support research visibility, foster global collaboration, and advocate for equitable knowledge dissemination. Topics to be covered: -Global Trends in SDG research citation and geographical differences in policy citations. -An exploration of knowledge brokers: those connecting research and policy. -Open Access (OA) and Institutional Impact: preliminary insights into how OA publishing and institutional reputation affect policy uptake of research. -Implications for Academic Libraries: how librarians can leverage these findings to support institutional research impact, promote SDG-aligned scholarship, and advocate for inclusive science.
