I Watched KPOPPED on Apple TV+ So You Don't Have To - All Full Performances!

Y'all... I got a 7-day free trial of Apple TV+ JUST so I could watch KPOPPED and we binge watched it over the space of a week on Twitch. I had a LOT of feelings while watching this. Mostly "Why am I still watching this?" 🫠 I started off really hopeful & excited to see this, but by halfway through the series I was... underwhelmed. The performances were definitely the best part of the show. But as far as "KPOPPING" these songs - making them significantly different, even ELEVATING them - most of these performances didn't do that for me. They didn't showcase the k-pop idols in a really strong light, either, to show the level of talent and training that these groups have. Because this is such a major cross-cultural moment, and we've seen the ways the k-pop is influencing western media lately, I watched the entire show from the lens of someone who was NOT familiar with k-pop being introduced to it for the first time. And, to be honest, a lot of how the industry & artists were portrayed were making me really upset. I feel like they could have invested a lot more care and intention in really highlighting a lot of what makes k-pop so strong, but instead they opted for really forced drama (that made the idols look untrained & talentless) and really obvious Korean tourism PR. I dunno, man. It was a tough watch. Haha. Thank you to everyone who joined me on Twitch and stuck through the whole week! We were SO glad to reach the end on Friday and go back to BOYS II PLANET - say what you want about MNET's awful reality show edits, but at least it's genuinely entertaining and the talent is TALENT-ING.
